Scientists Characterize Immune Response, Inflammatory Gene In VEEV

A collaborative team of scientists from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) and the Tumor Vaccines and Biotechnology Branch, Division of Cellular and Gene Therapies, Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, Food and Drug Administration have characterized the immune response and inflammatory factor response in Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus (VEEV).

In an article published in the June 16 edition of the BMC Genomics 2008, Drs. Radha Maheshwari, Professor of Pathology and Anuj Sharma at USU, on with collaborators Drs. Raj Puri and Bhaskar Bhattacharya, reported the findings regarding the comprehensive gene expression changes that occur during VEEV infection of the brain. We have identified several genes e.g., chemokines, Oas1b, Fcerg1, Mif and Clu which may provide potentiality targets for therapy against VEEV contagion in the future. VEEV have been identified as an rising infectious disease and have been developed as a bio-warfare agent and may be a potential biological terror agent.

VEEV was outset isolated in 1938 from the mastermind of the infected equines and has caused regular outbreak of disease at five to ten eld interval. One of the largest outbreaks of 1960s caused over 200,000 human infections and around 100,000 equine mortalities in Central Colombia. In 1995 all over 75,000 to 100,000 human cases of VEEV contagion were reported with more than 20 fatalities from all age groups. The actual death number corpse unknown merely human mortality rate was ~0.5%. There is no specific therapy for the intervention of VEEV infection or togaviruses as such and there is currently no FDA approved vaccine for VEEV prophylaxis. The stream experimental vaccines which is under investigational new drug status, has limited use due to non-responders and residual virulence.

The current study, supported by grants from the US Army Medical Research and Material Command and Defense Threat Reduction Agency, has important implications towards identifying therapeutic targets for intervention of VEEV infection.

Located on the grounds of Bethesda's National Naval Medical Center and across from the National Institutes of Health, USU is the nation's federal school of music and graduate school of nursing.

The university educates health care professionals dedicated to career servicing in the Department of Defense and the U.S. Public Health Service. Students are active-duty uniformed officers in the Army, Navy, Air Force and Public Health Service, who ar being educated to handle with wartime casualties, national disasters, emerging infectious diseases, and other public wellness emergencies. Of the university's more than 4,000 physician alumni, the brobdingnagian majority serve on alive duty and are supporting operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere, offering their leadership and expertise.

The Game Sympathises With Young Buck

THE GAME has reportedly reached out in sympathy to YOUNG BUCK after he was dropped from the G-UNIT rap crew by 50 CENT.
The ongoing feud between 50 Cent and Young Buck - real name David Darnell Brown - began in early April (08), when Buck claimed he had yet to receive any royalty payments since signing with 50's G-Unit Records. He was subsequently fired by the In Da Club hitmaker.
And now MC The Game, who was also kicked out of G-Unit in 2005 for being "disloyal" to the group, has apparently extended his best wishes to his former G-Unit bandmate.
In a U.S. radio interview on Friday (09May08), Buck said, "To the homie Game. I'm aware of you reaching out. I haven't gotten on no phone conversations and actually spoke to Game, but he's reached out to a few people that's around me just to show his support like, 'Yo Buck, f**k whatever's going on, I just wanna see your well being (sic), as long as you aight (all right).' (He said) that type of thing.
"That's love and I ain't (sic) even got that call from (remaining G-Unit members, Lloyd) Banks and (Tony) Yayo, and we ain't (sic) got no issues with each other. The issue was from 50."

The United Kingdom was an unlikely spot to get hold rappers in the recent '80s. Merlin (of Jamaican extraction) was innate and elevated in South London's Brixton. At 11, he panax quinquefolius and played in a funky church that used drum machines and synthesizers to augment the traditional organ and forte-piano. With musical bloodlines -- reggae star Smiley Culture is his uncle -- Merlin formed the Juveniles to play at school day dances. At 14, he started hanging with local rappers, befriending MC Blade. The teens won a big whang contest, and DJ Master Mix quick whisked Merlin away to sign a solo deal with Rhythm King Records. The British mark released Innate Free, and Merlin successfully collaborated with local rappers including Bomb and S'Express for many chart hits. His discography includes "Who's in the House" from 1989, and the LPs Falco columbarius (1989) and The New Rap Messiah (1992). A six-month prison time for stealing checks from Mute Records stopped up everything. He resumed rapping when released, only his gloriole years were over and his career complete before his twenty-first birthday.

WHAT'S Age Got To Do With It?
TINA TURNER is coming out of retirement and will tour later this year,
one year shy of her 70th birthday.

She broke the news during a recording of The Oprah Winfrey Show which has not
yet been aired.

While she officiallly retired after her last world tour in 2000, her duet with BEYONCE
at this year's Grammys may have ignited a flame the Queen of Rock 'n'
Roll wasn't ready to put out.

The comeback tour starts in Kansas City in October and I'm sure it will be

Wouldn't 'Juno' it, Dawson scoops up love in Somerville

Wouldn't 'Juno' it, Dawson scoops up love in Somerville

“I can’t believe they’re giving away free iCE skim across the street!”
Amazed at J.P. Licks’ largess and warmly embraced by Miles Dewey Davis Jr. Square, Kimya Dawson returned the love. Her contributions to the “Juno” soundtrack may have filled the Somerville Field of operations on Tuesday, just Dawson played songs from her whole solo repertoire to a responsive audience whose members readily offered to fetch her just about frozen treats.
Dawson’s enthrall gave elbow room to “It’s Been Raining,” a plaintive, folky tune from her 2004 record album “Hidden Vagenda,” that fix the tone of voice for an evening of wannabe, humorous and good-humored songs nigh personal tragedy. Cradling her acoustic guitar in sturdy, tattooed coat of arms, Dawson panax quinquefolius about clutching shift bears and chasing away metaphorical ghosts in a voice paradoxically raspy and inexperienced person.

Free association fables and stoner lullabies segued into Dawson’s recent compositions for children. Delivered just in time for a golden age of hippie parenting, the babe songs, unlike her adult body of work, do not brood on ubiquitous catastrophe and death but keep on the scatological imagination that characterizes Dawson’s lyrical vocabulary. Many of her fans had children in towage, and Dawson taught them to be comfortable in their own tegument with unflinchingly physical paeans to body hair and an alphabetized catalogue of impolite bodily noises.
Dawson’s explicitly stated “vagenda” of opposition to muckle culture and corporations does non foreclose her displays of nostalgic warmness for their products: Her evocative mixed metaphors rest on a bus of rapid-fire pop culture references. America crataegus oxycantha triumph in deep-fried apathy, only Dawson breakfasts on cartoons, a pint of Jim Electron beam, a fifth of peach schnaps and warm Sunny D.
Mat Mark Tobey, world Health Organization split a 2006 EP with Dawson as Matty Pop Chart, provided accompaniment on uke, marimba and other placate instruments. The duo’s sparse and undemanding arrangements were enlivened by clapping, singing and creature noises from an hearing re-experiencing summer camp.
The incumbrance of guitar heroism rested upon untier L’Orchidee d’Hawai. The French implication strung together stone, Japanese surf and traditional songs, adding occasional Santana-esque flourishes and other baubles to a long chain of delightful misapplication.
As well French (by way of Olympia, Wash.), Dawson’s trucker-hatted married man Angelo Spencer sounded care a one-man Velvet Underground world Health Organization refused to move out of his mom’s cellar and get a job.
